Bargaining Briefs

Bargaining 2024

October 2024

Your bargaining team met with the District on Tuesday, October 1, and again on Monday, October 7th, for our first negotiation sessions of the school year.

We spent quite a bit of each session on Special Education:
Revisiting the current SpEd MOU-

  • Current MOU regarding SDC Overages, originally dated 10/19/23, will be extended to the end of this school year.
  • TK/Kinder SDC
  • We currently do not have language for this. State requirements for TK need to be considered and language will be drafted to provide equity with our general education TK programs.
  • Para Ratios
  • District agreed to communicate a list of all outside agency paras to sites, so agencies can be contacted when paras are out.

We also received information about upcoming changes to the CSTPs and discussed some of the implications for bargaining.

We continue to work on ways that we can get some of our benefits funded through our LCAP. We will keep you posted as this unfolds.

We are back at the table on Friday, December 6th.
Thank you for your ongoing support!

Marnee’ McKenzie, Chair, TL
Leanne Duden, TK

Jamie Kerns, Secondary, TL

Bargaining 2021

April 2014

VEA Members have suffered a reduction in wages and benefits since 2008

  • The District is financially stable and has the means to begin restoration of wages and benefits.
  • Today the District presented us with a wage proposal of 2.5%, but it came with unacceptable “strings” attached.
  • We asked for the “strings” to be eliminated, and we expect to have a favorable written proposal at our next meeting on Thursday, April 17.
  • IF WE DO NOT, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION!!!

We need all unit members to be prepared to attend the school board meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 5:00PM.

  • We are experiencing difficulty on reaching agreement on many of our proposed items.
  • VEA will continue to work to begin a restoration of our wages based on the current 2013-2014 budget.
  • At this point it is critical that members stay informed and get involved!
  • We will continue to keep our process confidential, and will not be specific with information, in order comply with the good faith labor practices of bargaining.
  • We have scheduled bargaining dates on April 10th, 17th, and 24th
  • Our goal is to present a proposed contract for ratification by the beginning of May.
  • Action Team will develop an Action Plan with CTA on April 7th.

February 2014

  • The VEA Bargaining Team met with the District on Thursday, February 27, 2014.
  • We continued to bargain on the following articles: WAGES, HOURS, SAFETY, CLASS SIZE, EVALUATIONS, Clean-up Language, Outstanding MOUs, and MEMBERS’ RIGHT TO DUE PROCESS.
  • We received a disappointing response to our wage proposal from the district.
  • We have let the district know that we will only accept an increase in wages that honors your hard work and acknowledges your sacrifices.
  • We will continue to keep our members up-dated. However, in order to comply with the tenants of bargaining, we cannot be specific with information.
  • We have scheduled additional dates in order to move the process forward more quickly.
  • Our goal is to present a proposed contract for ratification by the beginning of May.
  • At this point it is critical that members get involved!
  • VEA’s Action Team will be putting together a plan… please look for it at Rep Council.
